D&D News Summer 2005 Development work
Regular readers may remember that we've been involved in the construction sector a few times - other than with the Highways Agency's CAT. This spring we have formalised our relationship with Constructing Excellence, through joining a new network of advisers they have established to help in that industry sector. We will be specialising - as you'd guess - in supporting the use of the Excellence Model. From what we've seen from CAT and other avenues, there is a lot of interest/use within the sector, and let's hope we can help further.
Through our contact with Terry Pilcher of BCS Management Services, we have been introduced to Dr Andrew Jacks, and have been able to look at a piece of software he has to support his approach of Value Mapping. We looked at it mainly from the Excellence self-assessment angle, and it looks to have potential for use as a post-assessment tool to track and manage the ongoing improvements. As an assessment does not deliver improvements by itself, the improvement actions are vital, and this may help ensure they do get pursued (as well as being useful in areas we haven't even delved into!). We've also met again with David Howard of Management NewStyle, who specialise in process management and systems thinking to talk through some potential opportunities of working together. We had recently provided one of our existing clients an introduction to David.
And last but most definitely not least, we recently met with Phil Norman of Intravate to chat about how our respective organisations could work together in some form of collaborative arrangement. We both, of course, worked with Phil back in NatWest, and as we hadn't seen him for some time, the stories about old times flowed almost as much as the discussion about the future!
