Approach
- Self assessment against the Excellence Model using a 'pool' of in-house experts trained to Assessor level allows an organisation to better understand where its 'good practices' are so that the knowledge can be shared
- We developed a tailor-made two stage training course based on a recognised case study. One day acted as the preparatory day for attendees followed by some homework and then, some 4 weeks later, a second 'learning day'
- A third day was added to provide attendees with a complete pack of prepared presentations, information, templates, etc so that they could go back to their own parts of the business and undertake self assessment workshops
- These workshops allowed strengths and areas for improvement to be identified at the local level and at the higher level
Outcomes/benefits
- A 'pool' of company experts was created in the use of the Excellence Model and self assessment techniques
- A programme of self assessments was carried out across the country which identified local and national strengths and areas for improvement for action and for sharing with others
- The different parts of Mowlem Building Division were able to assess their 'excellence' against world class performances
- The alignment of what the company was doing was tested against its objectives
