Case Study
Customer
A Business Link - SME - Public Sector
Customer's main objectives
- To undertake a self-assessment as part of its contractual arrangement with the Government's Small Business Service to ensure partner suitability and confirm its licence to operate
- To identify key improvement opportunities to input to their own plans
Approach
- This was a two stage process, involving a one day 'educational' workshop for the assessment team followed by a one day 'consensus' meeting a month or so later
- Our first workshop conveyed basic knowledge and understanding of the Excellence Model and the process being used to the team who were to be directly involved in its own assessment
- The assessment team then gathered evidence about the Business Link's activities and its results using templates structured around the Excellence Model
- Our second workshop provided a platform for the assessment team to present its findings, and included additional members of the Management Team. Consensus on strengths and areas for improvement was sought
Outcomes/benefits
- The Business Link achieved its two main objectives
- Other benefits realised included enabling the customer to test how well its activities were aligned to its objectives
- It was, for most, their first opportunity to see the 'whole picture' of their organisation using the self assessment process - doing more than just examining results
Summary of our role
- Design and delivery of the first day's workshop providing the 'knowledge' about Excellence
- Review of the completed templates prior to the consensus workshop
- Facilitation of the consensus workshop to keep the team on track and to act as 'subject experts' using our own particular style
