Pro-forma/templated evidence gathering self-assessment
This approach is slightly more involved than that of completing a questionnaire, but to be honest we find it is probably the optimum starting approach for many organisations who are wanting to use the Model. The evidence gathering can allow and encourage rather wider scope of information to come forward than a questionnaire.
What's involved
An agreed number of people within the organisation - ideally a 'diagonal slice' - gather information and record the evidence in a workbook of templates based on the Excellence Model. A workshop is then used to discuss and reach a consensus view on the position. This process can draw out a great deal of detail, which can be used to develop a prioritised action plan.
How we can help
D&D Excellence can help you create the process. Our own template design can make it easier for users to look for the appropriate information about what is happening in the organisation, including the various initiatives, and help to identify Strengths and Areas for Improvement.
We always like to ensure that the process is fully understood by those involved and therefore we include an initial education and training session which covers some knowledge about the Excellence Model itself, the process, and completing the templates. Once the workbooks have been completed, we can facilitate a one day workshop to help reach consensus on the findings.
It is important that the work in reaching consensus should not be lost and so we recommend that a further session using those outputs is facilitated to help prioritise improvement actions.
